Zabol British Consulate Building Converted Into Museum

TEHRAN May 15 (MNA) –- The old British Consulate in Zabol, Sistan-Baluchestan Province has been converted into a museum.

The museum, due to open on World Museum Day (May 18), is now home to the relics of the Burnt City.

The building, constructed in 1898 (late Qajar era) is located near the old Iran-England Bank building.

Inspired by the local architecture of the Sistan-Baluchestan region, the square-shaped building is made of mud bricks. Its arch-shaped decorations on the upper parts of walls as well as the edge of the roof have given a martial and defensive look to the building.

The octagonal entrance reaching to two floors stretches on both sides to long verandas covered with arch-shaped ceilings to avoid direct heat from coming inside the building. The buildings numerous rooms are connected to one another through hallways.
